Bill Perkins Case Study
After New York City Councilwoman Inez Dickens was elected and ultimately sworn to serve in the New York State Assembly, a 2017 Special Election was called to fill her seat on the New York City Council on Valentine’s Day, February 14. Jacobson & Zilber Strategies was brought on to lead the paid media efforts of this sprint of a race, which included a sizable field of nine candidates. Our effort primarily focused on an early, robust direct mail campaign that sought to define State Senator Bill Perkins first out of the gate as the hometown hero and the neighborhoods-focused candidate. The strategy worked at the ballot box. Senator Perkins outperformed his rivals by a whopping 15-points, avoided a run-off election, winning outright.
